Title: Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa

Director: Alvin B. Yapan

Writer: Alvin B. Yapan

Crew: Executive Producers-Alemberg Ang and Alvin Yapan, Producer-Tonee Acejo, Editor-Mai Dionisio, Production Designer-Aped Santos, PDGP, Director of Photography—Arvin Viola, Music-Christine Muco and Jema Pamintuan, Choreography-Eli Jacinto

Characters: Jean Garcia as Karen, Paulo Avelino as Marlon, Rocco Nacino as Dennis

Summary: It started with a scene in a college classroom at FEU (Far Eastern University). Karen (Jean Garcia) is a Literature professor with his two students, Marlon (Paulo Avelino) and Dennis (Rocco Nacino).  Karen is also a dance instructor. Marlon secretly admires and has a “crush” or likes Ms. Karen. Marlon stalked Ms. Karen while she was going to her dance lessons. Until he knew that Dennis works for Ms. Karen in her dance lessons.

Marlon used Dennis to give him way with getting in touch with Ms. Karen just like Dennis. In order to do this, Dennis will give free dance lessons to Marlon so that he’ll be in advance when he enrolls in Ms. Karen’s class. Without Marlon’s awareness, Dennis has affection towards Marlon. Dennis was feeling really happy as he teaches Marlon. Until Marlon started practicing in Ms. Karen’s dance class and he needed to get a partner (girl) in the class then Dennis got jealous. Also, Ms. Karen concluded about Marlon’s goal and ways on how to be good in her dance lessons. So Marlon thought Dennis straightly said to Ms. Karen about his plans. Marlon and Dennis’ close relationship drifted apart.

Ms. Karen’s relationship with Dennis and Marlon was tightened. She got worried when she felt there’s something wrong going on between Dennis and Marlon’s friendship. Ms. Karen asked her two students to help her teach a group in their cotillion. She felt the tension was getting stronger as they danced in the cotillion. After the dance, Ms. Karen invited the two boys in her house to confront them.

Eventually, Ms. Karen held Humadapnon which is a dance adaptation and she chose Marlon and Denise as the stars. Marlon barely understood the poetry of Humadapnon so Ms. Karen had one-on-one lecture with Marlon about that. Though, Marlon’s body already understood it. Ms. Karen invited Marlon to dance with her then she passes him onto Dennis. The last scene was during the live show of Humadapnon---when Marlon danced Dennis; they stopped and Marlon’s tear fell down his cheeks as he stared at Dennis.

Feedback about the story: The film was good but its ending is really complicated and tricky. I had an assumption that Marlon cried because of too much intensity or the way that the dance treat him. The casts acted great and satisfying. Especially Dennis’ character who played as a bisexual (or at least he liked Marlon) because of his body structure. Rocco and Paulo’s body structure was surely eligible for the concept of the story. Jean Garcia also fitted the character because of her age and beauty. It’s quite funny and exciting because you’ll get to guess what could happen next.

ELEMENTS OF THE STORY:
Setting: FEU (Far Eastern University), Ms. Karen’s house (as far as I remember it’s in Tondo), dance studio.
Plot: Ms. Karen as the Literature professor of Marlon and Dennis. Marlon was having a crush or affection for Ms. Karen. Dennis, who works for Ms. Karen in her dance studio, had feelings for Marlon secretly. So Marlon used Dennis to get in touch or get closer with Ms. Karen.
Characters: Ms. Karen as the Literature professor of Marlon and Dennis. Marlon likes Ms. Karen and Dennis likes Marlon.
Conflict: When Dennis started to get jealous with the dance partner of Marlon and Marlon knew that Dennis told Ms. Karen about his plan---having advance dance lessons with the help of Dennis.
Theme: Sexuality, gender politics (from a masculinity point of view)

Feedback on the film’s technical aspect: The shots and scenes were also nice and creative. The best scene for me is when Marlon and Dennis’ background was the moving LRT and they are leaning on a window inside a building in front of the LRT. The lighting wasn’t also that dark or bright and it actually fits the scenes when Marlon and Dennis were having their lessons alone. Their facial reactions also fit the lighting. The aspect ratio and framing
were also good especially when they were dancing and showing the texture and skin tones.

I watched it with my friends in CCP theater :)
